What brings you peace? In a world of constant turmoil, our lives ebb and flow from out of control to calm. When things feel unmanageable in life, what are some things that bring you peace or calmness? I change my routine, get out in nature, or work on a project or hobby. All these things turn my obsession with life’s unmanageable parts into that calmness. In that calm, I typically have the presence of mind to ask God for intercession.
Eventually, life goes on, and the busyness starts back up. However, after those reprieves, everything seems less out of control. I agree with many experts that we must build those times away into our lives; once a week, once a month, once a year. This is where a “Rule of Life” comes into play. Over the last couple of weeks, I have been preaching on the importance of connecting with God and practicing spiritual practices. Those are also part of a “Rule of Life,” a plan to help us stay healthy and connected to God. It is a plan to help us from feeling overwhelmed and burnt out. Over the next couple of weeks, I will discuss it more in my sermons and possibly the November newsletter. Spiritual practices are nothing to be ashamed of and should be discussed and shared. That is how we grow and improve our relationship with Jesus Christ with the help of other people.
